I am opening up short story critiques and sensitivity readings for both short stories and longer novels up to 120,000 words.
What you’ll get:
Mark ups throughout your document as well as a summary of notes on your story for your choice of:
- sensitivity (your choice of what you want me to edit for);
- character and plot (whether your characters are believable and consistent and notes about plot and structure); or
- line editing (making sure your lines sound nice and that there aren’t any spelling or grammar mistakes)
If you are interested in anything in particular, please let me know and I can arrange something. Correspondence can be over email or Google Chat, with additional video calls, at your preference.
My sensitivity reads include:
- lesbian, gay, bisexual, asexual
- mental illness
Story critiques will be returned within one week for <60,000 and 2-3 weeks for 60,000-120,000 words.
I am willing to negotiate prices for members of marginalised communities. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information!
I graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, majoring in Literature Studies (back then it was called English Literature) and Writing. For three years during that time, I worked as a tutor for high school English students, and all of my students’ grades improved in that time.
I have spent the last few years writing as much as I can between jobs and study. I have self-published two novels, an anthology of short stories (The Good Book Of Bad Stories) and a novella (A Changed Man Is A Stranger To Himself), both of which are under the name Anne-Marie Veld on Smashwords, iBooks, Kobo and Barnes & Noble.
I have been published in Pastel, Gulp, Tundish and Jacaranda; co-wrote a play “Outside In” for UQ Underground in 2017; wrote a play “Bitches of Bourbon Street” that was performed at the UQ Vanguard Theatre and UQ ARTS theatre showcase in 2018; had a novel shortlisted for the Penguin Write It Fellowship; was secretary and then president of UQ Writers Club for 2018; and edited the nation-wide queer zine Querelle in 2016. I have been writing copious amounts of fanfiction for the past 10 years, which has exposed me to so many different styles of writing and cultures throughout the years. I have a lot of expertise in writing and would love to lend it to you for your work.
I put a lot of care and attention into everything I do, and I will extend that same care to you and your writing.
